Ideal candidates for PRP hair restoration include:
Dr. Morgenstern will begin by numbing the area with a topical anesthetic. A staff member will then collect a sample of your blood so it can be “spun” in a special machine. This machine is designed to separate solids and liquids to create a solution that has an extremely high concentration of platelets. PRP is then put into a syringe that is injected just under the scalp’s surface. The procedure can take 60 to 90 minutes.
Wash your hair thoroughly just before a treatment session to ensure your scalp is clean. Avoid using hairspray or styling products on it during this time.
Following PRP hair restoration in Philadelphia with Dr. Morgenstern, you can resume your daily activities immediately. You may experience a slight numbness in your scalp which should disappear in a few hours.
This will depend on the extent of thinning hair and the exact results you are trying to achieve. As such, the cost is different for everyone and can only be discussed after undergoing a consultation. We offer CareCredit® as a financing option. Also, check our Current Specials.
If you have thinning hair, PRP can be effective to help regrow thinning hair, but should not be used to fill in bald patches. Your scalp also needs to be free of any lesions or open sores.

A typical PRP session for hair restoration lasts about 45 minutes to an hour. This includes the blood draw, preparation of the platelet-rich plasma, and the injection process.
PRP can significantly improve hair thickness and density, but maintenance treatments are often required to sustain results. Most patients undergo follow-up sessions every 6 to 12 months after completing their initial treatment series.
Yes, PRP is often combined with other treatments, such as topical or oral medications like minoxidil or finasteride, laser therapy, or microneedling, to maximize hair restoration results.
Most patients report minimal discomfort during the procedure. A topical anesthetic is usually applied to the scalp to reduce potential pain from the injections.
PRP can be effective for hair thinning caused by various factors, including stress or temporary hair loss due to illness, as long as the hair follicles are still active. A consultation will determine whether PRP is suitable for your specific condition.
Patients can typically return to their normal activities immediately after PRP treatment. However, it is recommended to avoid washing the scalp, heavy exercise, or applying hair products for at least 24 hours.
PRP is generally considered safe because it uses your own blood, reducing the risk of allergic reactions or complications. Mild side effects may include scalp tenderness, redness, or slight swelling, which typically subside within a day or two.
