At our practice outside of Philadelphia, we offer BOTOX® Cosmetic, Restylane®, laser hair removal, and other cosmetic dermatology treatments to help our patients achieve smoother, more youthful-looking skin.
Dr. Paul M. Glat offers his Philadelphia skin care patients the option of effective laser hair removal to permanently reduce unwanted hair growth on almost any part of the body both safely and comfortably. Laser hair removal typically requires a series of treatments in order to be fully effective. Each laser hair removal treatment is quick and convenient.
During the laser hair removal procedure, Dr. Glat will treat the affected area of skin with a handheld laser unit. Before treatment, Dr. Glat will adjust the laser to best serve the needs of the individual patient. If needed, he may also apply an anesthetic gel to the skin before beginning. The length of the procedure varies based on the size of the affected area.
Following laser hair removal, some patients experience mild swelling and redness that subside after a week or less. Darker-skinned laser hair removal patients occasionally experience changes in skin tone. Patients who entrust their laser hair removal treatments to an unqualified skin care provider risk suffering burns and other injuries caused by improper laser handling techniques, in addition to uneven results.
At our practice outside of Philadelphia, we have consistently achieved excellent results with laser hair removal. In some cases, patients find they need occasional touch-up treatments about once a year to maintain the desired effect, but most experience permanently reduced hair growth in the areas that have been treated with our laser hair removal system.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most popular cosmetic dermatology treatments available at our practice outside of Philadelphia. BOTOX® injections smooth facial wrinkles by relaxing the muscles beneath them. Though BOTOX® Cosmetic is derived from botulinum-A toxin, the diluted form used in injections has been approved by the FDA as a safe and effective treatment for wrinkles and facial lines.
As the injections take effect over the course of one to three weeks, muscles under the skin will begin to relax, causing wrinkles to smooth out and in some cases disappear completely. Unlike facelift patients, BOTOX® Cosmetic patients will not appear dramatically different after receiving treatment. The results are noticeable, but subtle and amazingly natural. Dr. Paul M. BOTOX® treatment generally takes no more than an hour, and patients usually describe the procedure as painless. In some cases, slight bruising or small red dots may be visible at the injection site, but these should disappear within 24 hours. Almost all normal activities can be resumed immediately, but patients should wait until 24 hours after receiving BOTOX® injections to engage in strenuous exercise.
Restylane® injections offer patients at our practice near Philadelphia important advantages over other injectable treatments. Restylane®, a gel derived from hyaluronic acid, fills stubborn wrinkles and also moisturizes the skin, improving its texture. Because hyaluronic acid is a natural biodegradable product found in the human body, Restylane® breaks down after some time and leaves no unsafe byproducts or residue. Restylane® is synthesized in a laboratory, an advantage over animal-based products such as collagen that may cause allergic reactions in some patients.
Like other injectable treatments, Restylane® takes very little time to apply. Depending on the size of the area being treated, the process can take from 10 minutes up to an hour. The procedure is essentially painless. Although Restylane® patients sometimes experience some tenderness or slight swelling in the affected area they are generally free to return to normal activity immediately after leaving our office.
The results of Restylane® are visible almost immediately. However, it may take a few days for minor swelling to subside. At this point, wrinkles will have faded and the skin will have a younger, healthier appearance that should last for about six months.
Radiesse® is one of a new generation of dermal fillers containing calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres. Radiesse® acts in two ways. For the first few months of treatment, it fills wrinkles to give the patient smoother skin. Later, as the body absorbs the calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres, the spheres stimulate the production of new collagen fibers. These fibers are responsible for the skin’s elasticity and firmness, and extra fibers dramatically improve the skin’s texture and appearance. The resulting benefits last up to two years.
Juvéderm™ Injectable Gel is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler suitable for filling both deep facial wrinkles and the finer lines that appear around the eyes and mouth. It is very safe and convenient, and like other hyaluronic acid fillers Juvéderm™ Injectable Gel moisturizes the skin as it is absorbed for long-lasting benefits.
Sculptra® is a dermal filler containing polylactic acid. It is used both to treat wrinkles and lipoatrophy – facial fat loss caused by HIV/AIDS and other medical conditions. Sculptra® is synthetic, so it carries no risk of allergic reaction. Over the weeks following treatment, Sculptra® promotes the growth of new collagen in the skin, making it appear gradually fuller and more youthful. These benefits may last as long as two years before a follow-up treatment is required.
Laser technology offers exceptional benefits to skin care patients. Laser skin resurfacing involves using precise laser beams to remove the worn outer layers of skin cells, revealing fresh new layers beneath. After undergoing laser skin resurfacing, the patient should have smoother, healthier skin with fewer wrinkles, discolored areas, and other imperfections.
Laser skin tightening is a wrinkle treatment that employs infrared lasers to heat layers beneath the surface of the skin. This heat treatment stimulates natural collagen growth, which in turn makes the skin appear tighter and smoother.
During the chemical peel procedure, a chemical solution is applied to the skin. This solution removes the outer layers of skin to expose new layers beneath. A variety of chemical solutions, with different contents and concentrations, are available for peels. Dr. Paul M. Glat and his staff will help each patient determine which solution is appropriate for them.
Microdermabrasion is an effective treatment for diminishing blemishes, scars, and age spots. By gently spraying the skin with a dust of fine crystals, Dr. Paul M. Glat can exfoliate the skin. Simultaneously, he uses a suction device to remove the crystals and any dead skin cells, leaving the skin looking smoother and healthier.
